California: PG&E-CPUC Public Records

Under pressure from the City of San Bruno and an Administrative Law Judge, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) released 70,157 emails, with 50,589 attachments, exchanged with officials of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in Jan. 2015. These public records cover the period of Jan. 3, 2010, to Sept. 24, 2014. Many of the records concern the San Bruno natural gas pipeline explosion that killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes, but other subjects are discussed, including nuclear and solar issues.

PG&E presented the public records in a format that is nearly impossible for media, legal researchers, and the public to navigate. As a public service, Checks and Balances Project (C&BP) has created a database of these public records that is searchable by three types of keyword searches and seven different types of advanced search capabilities

C&BP believes that greater transparency and accountability of government officials, lobbyists, and corporate management is good for our democracy. We hope you find our new database of value.
